Dear Parent(s):

Welcome to PAHS Study Skills! Your child’s success in school and life is ultimately up to him or her. However, support from family, teachers, friends, and others in their world can often make their job easier and often less stressful. During this semester, we will be working on “helpful strategies and insights designed to save time, reduce homework stress in the household, and empower your child to achieve success.” (SOAR) Hopefully together we can work to design a personalized study plan based on your child’s strengths, needs and abilities. Even the most successful people have experienced personal challenges throughout their lives. With your support, I hope your child leaves my classroom a more organized and confident student with many strategies to help them through their school years and well beyond.

To accomplish these goals, I would like to develop your child’s ability to be their own advocate (a person who speaks or writes in support or defense of a person, cause, etc.). As parents we often try to “fight their battles” for them. Not to mention the battles you may have over chores and homework. I don’t think I can help with the chore issue but hopefully together we can develop strategies to help with homework and other school related challenges.

So that your child can become their own self-advocate for their education they will have access to their assignments and current grades on our online Grading/Attendance program, PowerSchool. Giving your child the opportunity to access their personal PowerSchool account will give your child the ability to view what assignments have been given and the grades they have received. It will also allow them to see what needs to be accomplished. This could be homework that is not finished, projects that must be completed or tests/quizzes that need to be made up. Ultimately, your child will be able to see their progress and plan accordingly. Please understand that this only gives them access to VIEW this material. Only teachers, guidance members, and administrators are authorized to make changes to a student’s records. Please complete and return the attached page so that your child will have access to their Private PowerSchool account. I will stress the confidentiality of this information with each student.

Thank you for supporting your child with their work in this class to develop life-long skills. Please feel free at any time to contact me with any questions or comments at the contact information below. Also, if you would like to provide your contact information, please do so on the attached paper.

I’m looking forward to a rewarding semester with your child!!!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kimberly Bowser
